The board of trustees of the William J. and Dorothy K. O'Neill Foundation has honored its founder, William J. O'Neill, Jr., with the designation Trustee Emeritus in recognition of his nearly 25 years of vision and leadership to the Foundation. Mr. O'Neill co-founded the Foundation with his mother, Dorothy, in 1987 in order to provide their family with a way to work together to serve their communities. Under his leadership the Foundation went from a small "kitchen table" grantmaker to a professionally staffed foundation with a diverse portfolio of grantees in eight locations across the United States.
Today the emphasis on family is stronger than ever. Nearly 40 members of the O'Neill family are active in the grantmaking process and their responsive grantmaking programs support organizations working in the arts, health and human services, education, community and economic development, the environment and animal rights. The Foundation is a strategic grantmaker and supports initiatives focused on strengthening fatherhood and alleviating maternal distress in mothers of very young children.
